At Telecare Choice, we highly recommend a keysafe as part of your Telecare package. With so many different models and features on the market, however, we know that choosing a keysafe can be difficult. Our handy guide aims to give you all the information you need.
In this guide, we have included some general information about keysafes as well as descriptions of three of the best products on the market. We want you to make an informed decision in order to feel comfortable in your home.
What is a Keysafe?
A keysafe is a small metal box, which contains a set of keys, and is fixed onto the outside of your property. The keysafe is programmed with a passcode (chosen by you). When this passcode is entered, the box opens, allowing access to the keys inside. These can include front door keys, back door keys, garage keys – whatever works best for you.
Keysafes are very secure and many alarm users have successfully used their keysafe for years. They can be used for personal convenience as well as for emergency access in an alarm call. People often use theirs for carer access or so that family members can let themselves in.
Why Do I Need a Keysafe?
Having a keysafe installed provides an extra layer of security by giving emergency contacts and the emergency services access to your property if you need urgent assistance. In the event of you pressing your Telecare pendant and needing emergency services, our monitoring centre will pass your code to the emergency services, who can then access the property with no delay.
One of the main benefits to our customers is the reassurance of knowing that emergency assistance can reach you without any harm to your property or even to yourself in trying to reach the door. This also means that you can receive help as quickly as possible without needing to force entry (which can often prove expensive) or waiting for someone with a key to arrive.
Keysafes are far more secure than leaving a spare key under the mat or on a piece of string through the letterbox, for example.
Which One Should I Choose?
We currently offer three keysafes: a KeyKeeper, a Burton Keyguard XL, and a Supra C500.
KeyKeeper – The keysafe is a small box that can be mounted on the outside of the property (fixing screws included). It measures 65mm x 105mm x 55mm and is suitable for most modern keys up to 7cm long. The keypad is a push button combination and comes with a discreet waterproof rubber cover.
Burton Keyguard XL – Able to contain up to seven keys, and with a 12 push-button lock, the Burton Keyguard XL offers Sold Secure Bronze Standards security. It is one of only two keysafes to be approved by the UK police, and also comes with a waterproof cover.
Supra C500 – The Supra C500 is one of two keysafes in the UK to have police approval. The keysafe has also been awarded a LPS 1175 Level 1 security rating which means that after rigorous testing, security experts have found that the C500 is as resistant to attack as a front door. The C500 is 80mm x 150mm x 64mm and can contain up to 6 keys. It also uses a push-button combination and comes with a black weather cover.
